About the Estate

Village of Saint Helena is a residential project centred around the 19th Century St Helena Cottage. Settled in the 19th Century as a country home and wine making enterprise, St Helena still has majestic gardens surrounding the single storey dwelling, which traded as a fine dining restaurant until ten years ago.

In 1869 renowned French winemaker Philobert Terrier who had worked the nearby Kaludah Winery, then became manager and winemaker at St Helena Vineyard. He was an early influence on Dan Tyrell, and was an early maker of Champagne style wines in the Hunter Valley. The project includes 190 home sites with extensive open space around the project’s tree covered water courses, a 150 residence retirement village, and a traditional French themed village square retail development adjacent to the original homestead.

The overall theme is one of harmony between landform and built environment – the use of the undulating hill landform to accentuate the individual home sites planned for the project. Maitland Council rezoned this land and adjoining properties in 2010 to provide over 3,000 home sites in South Lochinvar, one of the city’s growth areas.

Village of St Helena is the Western gateway of this urban release area, with direct access on  to the New England Highway.
